A disturbing video circulating on social media in Sierra Leone has ignited public debate and calls for stronger child protection measures, showing a female sex worker allegedly confronting and harassing an underage boy for failing to pay for sexual services.

The footage, reportedly filmed in Freetown or another urban area, depicts the woman aggressively demanding payment from the minor, who appears visibly distressed and intimidated. Witnesses and online commentators have condemned the incident as a stark example of the exploitation and blurred lines in the country’s commercial sex trade, where poverty drives both adults and minors into vulnerable situations.

Sierra Leone’s Sexual Offences Act 2012 prohibits child prostitution, with the minimum age of consensual sex set at 18. Obtaining the services of a child prostitute or benefiting from child prostitution carries severe penalties. Engaging minors in any form of sexual activity is illegal, and authorities have previously warned against the normalization of such exploitation amid economic hardship.
